THE QUIET REVOLUTION:
BMW i3 and i8 ARRIVE IN NZ.

BMW i is a groundbreaking concept for sustainable mobility, which opens a new chapter of environmental responsibility and visionary design for BMW. The BMW i8 and i3 incorporate revolutionary technologies and design with sustainable philosophy focused on drivers and their environment.

BMW i3

ELECTRIC AND ELECTRIFYING.

The all-electric BMW i3 redefines the driving machine of tomorrow. Sustainably designed, and powered by BMW’s emission free eDrive technology, the i3 is guaranteed to turn heads as it glides silently and cleanly through busy city streets.

Designed around BMW’s innovative LifeDrive architecture, the i3’s carbon passenger shell provides an amazingly spacious, safe and comfortable driving environment. Every detail of the BMW i3 is based on sustainability, which is why 95% of the materials used like organically tanned leather, certified eucalyptus wood and textiles, can be recycled.

Of course being a BMW, the i3 is also capable of spirited performance with a range-extender of up to 160 km courtesy of its lithium-ion high-voltage battery.

BMW i8

THE MOST PROGRESSIVE SPORTS CAR.

At first sight, the BMW i8 is a full-blooded supercar; the aggressive wedge shape and ground-hugging stance creating an extremely powerful presence. But beneath the sleek skin lies a revolutionary hybrid power plant that rewrites the rules of efficiency and sustainability.

The groundbreaking design of the BMW i8 uses the maximum amount of sustainably produced and recycled materials. The spectacular scissor doors swing upward to reveal an interior unlike that of any other car – door trim panels and dashboards made from renewable natural fibre, naturally-tanned leather and an open-pore eucalyptus wood. To save on energy consumption, manufacturing of the i8 is set up in the USA using clean energy from one of the world’s largest hydroelectric power plants – the Grand Coulee Dam.

On the road the BMW i8’s intelligent eDrive plug-in hybrid propulsion system creates an unbelievable driving experience. A powerful 96 kW (131 hp) electric motor drives the front axle while the rear axle is driven by a powerful BMW TwinPower Turbo 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine generating 170 kW (231 hp) and up to 320 Nm of torque. This dual drive system is capable of accelerating the BMW i8 from 0 to 100 km/h in a breath-taking 4.4 seconds – with fuel consumption of just 2.1 l per 100 km CO2 emissions of 49 g/km.
