BMW inspires New Zealand’s New Gen Fashion Designers.

New Zealand Fashion Week has grown to become a significant event on the international fashion calendar attracting attention from all over the world. But what really sets New Zealand’s fashion industry apart is the extraordinary degree of flair and innovation shown by the designers who exhibit their collections. Their unique ways of combining daring aesthetics with an exciting commitment to intelligent, fresh thinking in all areas is of course perfectly aligned to the BMW philosophy. This perfect synergy is why BMW New Zealand has formed a partnership with the New Gen Designers at this year’s Fashion Week to help them draw attention to their exciting work in a way that is uniquely BMW.

At New Zealand Fashion Week this year BMW gave three local New Gen Designers the opportunity to design a wrap for a BMW, with the added incentive of a $5000 cash grant to the winner. Adding to the interest generated by this exciting initiative is that the wraps were judged by the public. The winner of the People’s Choice Award was Alexis Komene ‘Crooked Seven’.

New Zealand Fashion Week which ran this year from 2-8 September was split into two parts. The shows on the first three days were restricted to the trade, then on Fashion weekend there were three days of events open to the public. BMW New Zealand is proud to be involved with such an important event that does such a worthwhile job promoting such fabulous local talent.
